Whether you've been writing for years or are interested in getting started, you're in the right place.

Here at Teach Write, we believe that teachers who write make the best teachers of writers. We know that when we are writers ourselves, there is so much we learn about teaching writing that we can't learn from a box or book.

But let's face it -- sometimes being a teacher-writer can be lonely. Maybe your colleagues don't "get it" or you have struggled to find a welcoming space that accepts you right where you're at and supports you as you grow.

That's why we created the Teach Write Academy, a unique, value-packed experience for teacher-writers that is unlike anything else.

The Teach Write Academy is a monthly membership where teachers go to grow as writers and as teachers of writers. It offers opportunities and experiences for teachers (current, past, or future) that will increase their confidence and creativity in writing and in teaching writing.

The Teach Write Academy is perfect for you if you:

  • Are a current educator, former educator, future educator, or a friend of education

  • Have an interest in experiencing the connection between being a teacher who writes and teaching writing

  • Are a beginning writer, an experienced writer, or somewhere in between. Experience does not matter!

  • Want to become a stronger writing teacher or learn how to bring writing into your non-ELA classroom

  • Have a writing goal that you're working towards and need accountability (Many dissertations have been written here.)

  • Are looking for resources to help you learn more about writing, creativity, and mindset

  • Want to explore and expand your creative life

  •  Want to become a part of a supportive and fun community of writers from around the world

Your monthly membership in the Teach Write Academy includes:

Frequently Asked Questions:

When do the workshops meet? All workshops and Teach Write Academy events meet at different times. We try to mix things up to accommodate the variety of time zones represented by our membership. However, all workshops (aside from Time to Write and Wake Up & Write) are recorded and housed in our Resource Library for you to watch at your convenience.

What if I'm not a teacher and I want to join? All of the activities in the Teach Write Academy are designed to support those in education. This includes teachers of all grade levels, administration, university instructors, support staff, tutors, substitutes, retired teachers, student-teachers, and former teachers. If you fall into one of these groups, we'd love to have you!

Where do the sessions meet? All of our sessions are held on Zoom. You'll have access to a worldwide community without ever having to leave home.

I'm a little overwhelmed. Do I have to do it all? Absolutely not! We designed the Teach Write Academy to be a value-packed powerhouse of activities and experiences for our teachers because we know that our community has wide and varied needs. That being said, please participate in any of the activities in a way that works for you. To help you find your way, we've even broken down our offerings with different purposes in mind:

Can I join for just one month to see if I like it? Your Time to Write membership is similar to a gym membership or Netflix -- it renews until you cancel it. If you join and decide you do not want to continue past your first month, just email teachwrite.edu@gmail.com at least two days before your renewal date to request a cancellation of your membership.

Do you offer a referral program? We do! As a matter of fact, many of our members were referred to us by a friend who is also in the Teach Write Academy. Just tell Erica that you have a friend who'd like to join and we will send the invitation. When they join, you'll get a month free as a thank you for your referral.

I'm an admin and would like to offer this to my entire staff. Do you offer group pricing? Yes! Email teachwrite.edu@gmail.com to set up a meeting to discuss your needs.

The History of the Teach Write Academy

Teach Write LLC was founded in 2017 by Jen Laffin, a former teacher who saw a need for a new way for teachers to feel supported while teaching writing.

A struggling writing teacher herself, Jen attended a National Writing Project Summer Institute where she fell in love with writing. When she brought her passion for writing back into her classroom, her students became more engaged and excited to grow their own writing lives. This was a career-changing moment for Jen as she saw firsthand that the key to being a strong writing teacher was to go through the writing process alongside her students as a writer herself. Wanting to help as many teachers and students experience this for themselves, she made the decision to leave the classroom and begin to support teachers in their own writing journeys as the founder of Teach Write LLC.

In 2018, Jen held the first Time to Write Workshop on Zoom (before Zoom was a household name). The community that grew from these workshops became something very special. Now, teachers from around the world could easily connect with each other to trade writing tips, instructional ideas, moral support, encouragement, accountability, and even the occasional recipe. The Time to Write Workshop quickly grew.

In 2022, Jen and her team made the decision to grow Teach Write again and started the Teach Write Academy, an all-inclusive, one-stop-shop for everything a teacher might need to support them as they become stronger writers and writing teachers. The Teach Write Academy monthly membership offers its members workshops, mindset coaching, resources, support, accountability, and that very special community that quickly becomes family to everyone who joins.

Now, In 2023 the ownership of Teach Write has changed hands and is now being lead by Arkansas teacher and writer of over a decade: Erica Johnson.  She plans to carry the legacy and continue to support teachers and students in growing as writers!
