Welcome to the January 19, 2019 edition of The Teach Write Writing Round-Up, a gathering of tips for teaching writing and for growing as a teacher who writes. 

 

I've done the work of scouring the web for tips for both teaching writing and growing a writing habit (because teachers who write make the best teachers of writers) so you don't have to.

The Write Life has pulled together an amazing list of websites for writers. They share links for everything that has to do with writing -- blogging, creativity, craft and much more. Check out their list here

 

Make Time for Your Own Writing:

Cohorts are now forming for our February Time to Write! Online Writing Workshop. We meet virtually every Wednesday night in February from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Eastern. This is a dedicated time for you to work on your own writing while finding support and encouragement from other teacher-writers doing the same. Sign up and join us!

Getting Ready to Slice:

The Two Writing Teachers Blog is gearing up for their 12th Annual Slice of Life Writing Challenge which runs during the month of March. This is a fantastic way to build your writing muscle. Do Your Students to Read Your Feedback?:

If you share written feedback with students only to have it ignored once they see the grade, you'll want to read "Delaying the Grade: How to Get Students to Read Feedback" from Cult of Pedagogy and Kristy Louden.

 

Getting Past Our Worst Writing:

What happens when we delve into a writing challenge and don't like what we're producing? We can either quit or plow forward until we find the good stuff. Roman St. James describes how a 500 word a day writing challenge led him from some of the worst writing he's ever done to the best.
