Welcome to the September 29, 2018 edition of The Writing Round-Up, a gathering of tips for teaching writing and for growing as a teacher writer.
We appreciate you stopping by! If you enjoy our Writing Round-Up, we'd love it if you would share it with a friend. Also, be sure to sign up for our email list so you never miss an update.
Now, on to this week's Round-Up!

Can Your Students Write a Novel?
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) begins November 1. During NaNoWriMo, participants sign up to write 50,000 words on a novel in 30 days. Did you know that your students can participate as well? The NaNoWriMo website has lots of free resources and support to help you plan.
Teaching students how to support each other as writers can be tricky. As you begin the school year, now is the perfect time to build strong peer review systems. Enjoy "Peer Review Done Right" from Sean Cassel and Edutopia.
A commute is the perfect time to tap into the power of podcasts. Penn & Paper have compiled a list of their 10 favorite podcasts to make you a better writer. (I really enjoy the Create-If podcast on the list and also find Ann Kroker's podcast very helpful.)
Mastering tone and mood in writing contributes to stronger plots and story structure. For students ready for a writing challenge, this would be a good one. This post from Janalyn Voigt can help.
Writing: What Do You Fear?
Join us on Monday, October 1 at 7:30 pm ET for our monthly #TeachWrite Twitter Chat. We will spend the hour chatting about writing fears -- how to recognize them, how to confront them, and how to move past them. Please join us! (You can sign up for a text reminder of all of our chats here.)
