The Writing Round-Up {7.23.17}

Hey there! Thanks for checking out this week's edition of The Writing Round-Up, some of our favorite ideas we have found from the past week to help you up your game as a writing teacher or as a teacher-writer. Let's get started...

Motivate Your Writing Life:

We have spent a lot of time this summer sharing ideas to get you writing. How's it going? If you are struggling find the time or motivation to sit down and write, Tiffany Sun of The Writing Cooperative has some great tips for you in this blog post. I think #4 is my favorite since I struggle with that one a lot.

Taking Control: Step Away from the Internet:

Do you control the internet or does it control you? (Be honest.) Technology and the internet are great -- except when they interfere with creativity, productivity and your writing time. The internet is an especially appealing interference when we are struggling through those messy parts of writing. Alex Mathers of Medium has shared some ideas for how we can step away from the internet and get our writing done in this post.

Writing: An Underrated 21st Century Skill

We all know how important it is for our students to know how to write. Research shows that one of the key factors in life success is one's ability to communicate through writing. Check out this blog post from Dave Stuart Jr. who shares the research and two ideas of what needs to happen to raise the level of writing in our schools.

#TeachWrite Twitter Chat:

If you are a teacher who writes or are interested in becoming one (or just in learning more), please join us on Monday, August 7th at 7:30 pm EST on Twitter for the new #TeachWrite chat. Our topic of August is "Writing for the JOY of It!" All of our chats will end with an invitation to write to leave you inspired and excited to practice what you just learned. Hope to see you there! (You can sign up for the Remind to receive a text message reminder of the chat here.)

Every Sunday, the Writing Round-Up shares a few of our favorite finds about teaching writing and other topics of interest to writing teachers.

Find these ideas helpful? We would love it if you would share it on your social media or email it to a friend.
